The Kremlin does not see Zelensky's will to normalize relations with Russia

20 December 2020

Russia is interested in normalizing relations with Ukraine but the necessary political will on the part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet been observed, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian leader.

The Kremlin spokesman noted that for a conversation at the highest level, "at least some prerequisites must be ripe." Peskov also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that the Russian side is interested in normalizing relations with all its neighbors, including Ukraine.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted a certain progress in implementing the agreements reached last year at the Normandy summit in Paris.

At the same time, he stressed, Ukraine had done nothing for a political solution to the conflict.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier that he needs to talk with the head of the Russian state Vladimir Putin "globally tete-a-tete." In addition, he promised to mobilize the entire population of Ukraine in the event of a military clash with Russia.
