The Argentine President Alberto Fernandez expressed gratitude to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and to the creators of the Sputnik V vaccine against the new coronavirus for its delivery to the South American republic.
“Argentina already has a vaccine against [the disease caused by the coronavirus] COVID-19. We express our sincere gratitude to the creators of the Sputnik V vaccine and to President Vladimir Putin for the determination they have shown to our country.
A path of hope is opening up, but the pandemic is not over yet. We must continue to take care of ourselves", he said.
On December 10, Buenos Aires signed a contract with Moscow for the supply of a Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection. Argentina's Ministry of Health issued an emergency permit for the Sputnik V vaccine on Wednesday.
A total of 300 thousand doses of the vaccine have been delivered to Argentina. Medical personnel will be the first to receive the vaccination. The next deliveries will be for the elderly, security and police officers, and then for everyone else. It is planned to vaccinate 10 million people by March 2021.
In Russia, a large-scale voluntary vaccination against COVID-19 started in early December.
