A Russian Christmas follow-up: the Old New Year coming soon to a village near you

The festivities in Russia begin around December 25. They happily continue through January 1 (the New Year's day) to January 7 (the Orthodox Christmas day). By January 14, the celebration smoothly transcends into what the Russians call the "Old New Year". Like the Russian Christmas, it also has to do with the two-week difference between the Julian and the Georgian calendars, so you got to celebrate the New Year's arrival twice.
