Ukrainians protesting high utilities costs blocked an international highway

04 January 2021

Today, the protesters again blocked the international highway M-03 near the city of Lubny in Ukraine. The reason was unaffordably high prices of natural gas - the critical commodity for all Ukrainians who use natural gas for heating their homes and cooking.

The protest turned out to be ten times more massive than the previous one last week.

Over 400 protesters blocked the route causing a traffic jam of 20 kilometers long, and allowing only ambulances and vehicles carrying sick individuals or pregnant women to pass through.

After a three-hour standoff, the Lubny Mayor convinced the protesters to unblock the road.
