Trump wanted in Iraq for the killing of an Iraqi militia leader
(NRT): An investigative court in Baghdad issued arrest warrant for the US president Donald Trump on charges of assassinating Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in an airstrike on January 3, 2020. Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council said that Trump was charged “in accordance with the provisions of Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code,” adding that the investigation “will continue to identify other participants in the commission of this crime, whether they are Iraqis or foreigners.”
This Jan. 3, 2020 file photo, released by the Iraqi Prime Minister Press Office shows a burning vehicle at the Baghdad International Airport following a deadly airstrike in Baghdad, Iraq in which the Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qassim Soleimani was assassinated.
The Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces, known as the Hashed (al-Shaabi), have been employed as shock troops in the bloody fight against Islamic State in Iraq.
The killing of general Qassem Suleimani has taken the US-Iran tensions to a new low. It could also strengthen the position of Tehran’s hardliners.
The death of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis will impact the US-Iraq relations as well - in an unpredictably negative way.
