Museum of Pushkin to be created in Turkey

 02 January 2021

In Turkey, in the city of Erzurum, a museum of the great Russian poet Alexandre Pushkin will be created.

Almost 200 years ago Pushkin visited those places and described his trip in the story “Journey to Arzrum”.

The head of the Department of Russian Language and Literature at the Ankara University of Social Sciences Bahare Gunesh initiated the process.

Turkish officials supported her and bought a 19th century house for the future museum. Currently Gunesh is collecting exhibits.

Alexandre Pushkin (1799-1837) whose great-grandfather originated from Ethiopia  remains the most beloved Russian poet today.

The UN Russian Language Day is observed annually on June 6.

The event was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010. The UN Russian Language Day coincides with the birthday of Alexandre Pushkin who is considered the father of modern Russian language.
